Akron Zoo

Visit the zoo and its café where you will have an encounter with TNT, a resident Komodo dragon, a Chinese alligator, and a Galapagos tortoise. Tray liners offer fun math activities for children and their families to do at the zoo or at home. After completing the activity at the zoo, fill out the raffle portion for a chance to win a free Akron Zoo membership
How to participate: Visit the café and pick up a tray liner. The Chinese alligator tray liner is available now and throughout the month of May, the Galapagos tortoise tray liner will be available in June, and the TNT tray liner will be available in July.

How to get there: Located at 500 Edgewood Ave., Akron, OH 44307. Accessible by Metro bus.
When: The Akron Zoo is open May through October from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Cost: Zoo admission is $9 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, and $5.50 for children ages 2-14. The parking fee is $2. Members of the Akron Zoo are free.

CYO Camp Christopher

Registered campers clip on pedometers and measure their walking strides in “Hike-A-Bout” to calculate the distance they hike and climb! This Learning 24/7 activity is part of week-long summer camps.
How to participate: Learn about the various camp programs offered by CYO and register by visiting www.akroncyo.org/camping or call 1.800.CYO.CAMP, ext. 203.
How to get there: Located at 1930 N. Hametown Rd., Bath, OH 44333.
When: See website for camp dates.
Cost: The week-long camp, which includes overnight is $350, however financial assistance is available. Camp is open to ages 7 to 16.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

The year is 1820, and you and your family are helping to build the “fast” new way to move people and things—the canal! These activities can be used by families at CVNP using math to see how much stone it took to build a lock and how much water a lock could hold. Walk a short distance from Canal Visitor center and see an actual lock!
How to participate: Visit Canal Visitor Center in CVNP and ask for the activities at the information desk, or click on the links below to download the activities to do at your home.
How to get there: Located at Canal Visitor Center in CVNP, near Lock 29.
When: Visit the Cuyahoga Valley National Park during daylight hours all year long. The Canal Visitor Center is open daily, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Cost: Free!

Ohio & Erie Canalway and Cascade Locks Parks Association

What was it like to live during the Canal Era in Akron? Come to the Mustill Store to see what it was like to buy groceries at a general store, how products were sold and tracked, and how much easier it is to buy things now. Also, learn math skills while participating in activities to learn about life along the canal!

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens

Spend “A Night with the Seiberlings” as part of Stan Hywet’s family-friendly tour, Franklin & You. Take on the role of a Seiberling family member, a guest or an employee – and tackle a math challenge in this incredible setting. Each of the three activities centers on real people who passed through the doors of Stan Hywet Hall and contributed to the rich history of this national landmark. Each activity takes place in a specific room and poses questions within a visual setting that promises to enhance the learning experience! Who will you be tonight – Franklin Seiberling, Marie Rider Cross, or President Taft?
How to participate: Ask for the activities when you sign-up for a self-guided tour! A staff member will explain the activity.
How to get there: Located at 714 North Portage Path, Akron, OH 44304. Visit www.stanhywet.org or call 330.836.5533 for tour dates, times, and reservations. Accessible by Metro bus.
When: Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is open Tuesdays through Sundays. The front gate opens at 10:00 a.m. and close at 4:30 p.m. Tours begin at 11:00 a.m. and the grounds are open until 6:00 p.m.
Cost: Admission fee is required.
