Challenges & Programs

Challenges & Programs: What Are the Educational Challenges? How Are We Tackling Them?
Through strategic alliances we tackle big educational challenges. The programs described here demonstrate approaches that tackle these challenges in collaborative and innovative ways.

Here are the three big educational challenges we are tackling:

Educational Challenge: Community as Classroom

How do we make educating our young people a community obligation - not one reserved just for schools?

It's clear that jobs have changed and require all our young people to know more than their parents or grandparents did. As expectations have increased, the length of the school day and school year has remained virtually unchanged in 50 years. Educating our young people is a community obligation.

Two collaborative initiatives using out-of-school time are under way: Learning 24/7 and Plug-Ins for Parents.

Educational Challenge: Support from Early Childhood to Beyond High School
How do we as a community increase the number of young people who aspire to and pursue education after high school so more young people are ready to fill high-skill jobs in Summit County?

Two initiatives with multiple partners in each are tackling this issue:
P-16 Alliance of Summit County and Destination College.

Educational Challenge: Leadership
How do we form strategic alliances among chief education officers and then link them with CEOs in other sectors so all leaders connect and learn together to tackle community-wide educational matters?
